Patricia, This is a great question that I am asked quite often this time of year. We actually are putting some details about this in our November newsletter so look for that! First, go basic! Technology changes so there is no need to buy something fancy. Computers will not last forever and you will need to update it sooner than you would think. We always recommend desk tops over laptops. Unless you travel a bunch or have other reasoning. Desktop computers are less expensive, easier to modify, cheaper to repair or replace parts, and less likely to be dropped. The basic starter computer is fine. Most software applications do not fully install so they will not require a ton of memory. I would also recommend some modifications to the user settings, mouse, and keyboard. Call me and I can discuss those with you in detail. Also, at age four I would personnaly recommend only supervised visits online. There is really nothing you can get on the internet that you cannot get from software. But there is a ton on the internet that you would not want your son exposed too. It is also the most likely place to cause damage (cookies, spam, and viruses)to your computer. These are all just recomendations, call me in the office and I can walk you through setting up the computer to protect the operating system. As for software, check out our Cranium Club. My son has been in your class for a couple of years now and loves it! We are planning on getting him a laptop for Christmas this year, can you make any suggestions? What kind should we get him, how much memory will he need, can you recommend any software?

My son started in the program when he was 3 and now he is in Kindergarten and impressing his teacher everyday with his knowledge and skills that he possesses on the computer. Thanks for a great job in giving my son a headstart.
